We combined scientific advances in learning with the strengths of more traditional programs to develop our comprehensive 1st-6th grade curriculum. A Reason For Spelling® teaches high-frequency base words, plus hundreds of other word forms. Our program's engaging approach integrates reading, writing, and language arts, and draws upon the latest understanding of how spelling instruction can be adapted for different learning styles.
Homeschooling parents tell us their kids enjoy Spelling more than ever before, because it seems like play instead of school work. While it’s true that the activities are designed to be fun and stimulating, don’t be fooled—there is serious science at work!
Each week begins with a read-aloud story (found in the Teacher Guidebook) that highlights a particular Scripture-based value for the week. The memory verse that accompanies every story corresponds with the weekly verse in the same level of A Reason For Handwriting®.
On Day 1, you'll administer a simple pre-test to evaluate your child's proficiency in spelling a list of words. Over the next few days, he'll practice the week’s word list through a variety of fun, multi-sensory activities designed to stimulate learning and build multiple word associations. At the end of the week, a post-test provides an opportunity to demonstrate improved spelling and mastery of concepts.
Our Spelling and Handwriting lessons mutually reinforce biblical principles each week, consistently showing your child that Scripture is relevant to real-life situations—an important foundation for a lasting biblical worldview.
The Teacher Guidebook for each level contains a wealth of information to make teaching easy. Features include story discussion prompts, additional Challenge words for strong spellers, special teaching insights, and much more. Every lesson includes multiple suggested activities to provide true differentiated instruction for auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners.
