Other publishers have introduced reading programs with various instructional methods, created for the secular market. A Reason For Reading® is unique because it provides a proven, research-based method to teach reading, while instilling Scripture values in young readers.

Using decades of research and experience in effective teaching strategies, we developed a program with leveled readers that incorporate biblical stories and values.

Research shows that when early readers struggle with words too advanced for their level of proficiency, they quickly become frustrated. As a result, they may develop negative attitudes and habits. A Reason For  Reading® is designed to prevent this.

Emergent-level readers feature simple word structure, short sentences, and repetition. Bold, colorful illustrations directly reflect the content of each page. As your child's skills become stronger, Transitional and Fluent level readers use increasingly complex vocabulary, stories, and illustrations. This method is proven to help develop the skills and strategies that can foster a lifelong love of reading.

With a total of 95 books in the complete A Reason For Reading® program, young readers have many opportunities to grow in confidence and proficiency—and with each milestone, their knowledge of Scripture increases, as well.

Teaching resources include a detailed lesson plan for each of the 95 leveled readers, as well as an age-appropriate reproducible worksheet to reinforce the content of each book.

Christian education is not only a matter of teaching academics; it’s also building a biblical worldview. What could be a better start, than immersing your children in God’s Word from the very first books they learn to read?

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your might.
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your children,
and shall talk of them when you sit in your house,
and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down,
and when you rise.
Deuteronomy 6:5-7 [ESV]
